Aikido was developed in Japan in the early 20th century by Morihei Ueshiba, known to his students as O-Sensei ("Great Teacher"). He is considered to be one of the greatest martial artists of all time.
Aikido is based on centuries-old Samurai fighting techniques, yet it is eminently suited to our modern times. Aikido is unique among martial arts as its goal is to redirect and control aggression without injuring the attacker, and it is amazingly effective.
The goals of Aikido are peace, love, and the unification of body and mind, all in the service of tempering oneself for the difficulties and joys of life.

You do not need to be big or athletic to begin training, you only need the desire to learn and to show up for classes.
